Founded in 1920, Meiji Jingu shrine was dedicated to the deified spirits of Emperor Meiji and the Empress Dowager. The shrine is covered by a prosperous forest with nearly 100,000 trees donated by people all over the country. The peaceful atmosphere has attracted many visitors every year. It is also one of the most visited shrines in Japan during the New Year.
